These scholarships aim to alleviate financial burdens and empower students to pursue their academic goals. Whether it’s covering tuition fees, textbooks, or other educational expenses, your donation can make a significant impact on a student’s life.
• Unhoused/Student Assistance Fund: Provide assistance to students facing homelessness. Many students at Garfield face challenges related to housing instability and financial hardship. The Unhoused/Student Assistance Fund offers them resources such as gift cards for essential items, Garfield gear from the student store, and access to tutoring programs. Your donation to this fund helps ensure that all Garfield students have the support they need to succeed academically and thrive despite difficult circumstances.
• Tutoring Program: Garfield High School’s tutoring program provides academic and social-emotional support to high-need students, aiming for improved graduation rates and student satisfaction. Originally planning to rely on teachers as tutors, the program saw enthusiastic student volunteers take up most tutoring roles. Under Principal Hart and Jamie Rees’s guidance, the program has excelled, offering tutoring in various subjects, engaging 75% of freshmen, mainly during school hours. Student tutors receive stipends and service credits, gaining valuable experience. Your support ensures students receive crucial assistance to thrive academically and personally.
